The Company had introduced best practice to its sales force through training. They wanted to ensure that these good sales practices were not wasted. It was neither appropriate nor affordable, to provide this training to those technical and other staff who prepared the proposal document.
Whilst sales activities were more structured they were receiving feedback from their clients that discussions with sales people were not being reflected in the proposal documents they received. Clients said they were disappointed which often led to them not being selected. They needed a capability to bridge the gap between sales and those preparing bids, including bid managers and bid contributors.
Shipley adapted its standard modules to include the new sales lexicon and rolled out the programme of training including bid management, bid planning, customer focused writing, and presentation skills. As a result the Company has received a return of investment on its sales training and closer co-operation between those technically involved in the customer and those involved in developing solutions.
